What We Do
The After School Dance Fund (ASDF) was originally establish in 2010 to level the playing field of the High School Latin dance competition that started in 1999 at Seneca Valley HS in MCPS.
Since its inception, ASDF aims to provide artistic, technical and financial support for the After School Latin Dance Programs in the exiting Montgomery County Public Schools (“MCPS”), and assist with the establishment Latin dance clubs for the new incoming schools in the district. ASDF expanded by popular demand, in 2012, to DC public and charter schools. Currently, since 2017, we are assisting other public, private and charter schools in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia start their own after school programs.
Who We Serve
Since 2010 we serve students within Montgomery county schools who participate and get prepared for the annual After School Latin Dance competition at the Music Center at Strathmore.
Since 2017 we expanded to provide lessons and choreography lessons to Elementary and Middle schools all over the DMV.
To be able to offer a meaningful after school experience to all MCPS High School Latin dance club participants, and to be able to replicate their successful experience in other school districts locally, regionally and nationally.
To promote wellness, heritage, adopt the new global cultural trends and facilitate unity and developing youth leadership using Rhythms in Latin Dance Education.
Our Overall Goal
To provide each student with the opportunity to develop qualities which will help them to become more confident individuals by developing their social and emotional skills through Latin dance education; leading them to excel in academics, pave their way to higher education, give back to their communities and ultimately feel good about themselves and the contributions they were able to make in their lifetime.
